New Years Resolution

I didn't think of a New Years Resolution until the day after new years. That night I didn't go to bed until really late, and the next day all I wanted to do was sleep, and thats what made me realize, I really need to get more sleep. We always see that teenagers need to get more sleep than the average person, because we are growing so much. They say a teen should get atleast 8 to 9 hours of sleep every night, but I find myself most school nights not going to bed until midnight, and waking up at 6, which is much less sleep than I need to be getting. I take naps during the day and I am always really tired when I wake up, so if I just went to bed earlier, then it would be easier for me to get up in the mornings. Not getting enough sleep I know is un-healthy, and when your sleeping, thats when you grow, so if I get more sleep... maybe I'll grow taller too!

Animal Farm Evaluations

Sidney
-poem
I really liked Sidney’s poem, they layout of hers was really different from mine, just looking at the poem it was very visually appealing. I also like how she didn't keep the same pattern through the whole poem, it made it a lot more interesting to read and not predictable.

Leanna
-art work
Leanna’s was creative and different from alot of people the way she drew her own pig, instead of just Photoshopping one she found on the internet. I think she does a really good job at showing the parallels from the Russian Revolution to Animal Farm, clearly linking Napoleon to Stalin, and the animals to the people under Stalin’s control.

Adora
-poem
Adora had a great deep poem! She brought up something you don't think about really when reading the book, that the animals actually had some idea of what they were getting themselves into. This is a great poem by the way it was written, and the really great topic it was about.

Emma
-video
This video was really creative, and with the music and speaking and the video itself, you can tell that she put a lot of time and effort into it. I thought it was funny how they made it all dramtic, sounds like it would be a good movie!

Kelsey
-comic strip
This project was very different than all the others, it was all about the windmill, and didn't really show anything about all the other important aspects of the book. The artwork was good though!

Emily
-tower of power
Of all the projects that were very similar, I think Emily’s was one of the stronger ones. She drew all her own pictures and labeled them, I also think she did a good job of putting everyone where they needed to be by class level.

Talia
-tower of power and relationships
WOW! Talia’s project was great. I think it was really cool how she wrote that paper too, because that’s what she is interested in in real life, so I really liked how she was able to tie something she is actually interested in into a project like that.

The Phantom Blog (not sure who it actually is)
-comic strip
This is a really well put together project! It looks like a ton of time was put into making it look really nice. The chart in the end is super clever and all the pictures are really good!

Dan
-comic
Dan’s project is again, very unique. It focus's in on the bad things the pigs did, and uses good artwork and labels to show that.

Davis
-paralleling artwork
Davis does a nice job of showing very clearly how Animal Farm is directly related to the Russian Revolution. He brings up all the important parells in the book.

Hailey (me)
-poem
I think compared with people in my class, my poem was pretty good. It's hard to compare a poem to everybody else’s because they are different, but I know I put a lot of time and effort into it. Also I think everybody did really good work, and besides some outstanding projects (Talia, Levi, ect.) I think my project was in the same quality levels as most peoples. I tried in my poem to show foreshadowing similarly as the book did (with the dogs) and I think by reading my poem you could say I understand the book.

Animal Farm

We must be free
From the tyranny!
And rise up and take control

But who will lead
So we can succeed
For we are not too smart

The pigs! The pigs!
For their brains are big
And ours are just too small

They remind us of all the good they have done
We are happy of this, because our memories of those are none
A windmill, yes their great new idea

It sounds like such a clever invention
In the pigs, we feel it causing tension
But we work hard to get it done

We feel the tension grow worse
Dogs and pigs converse
And Snowball is chased away

Now we have a new pig at the throne
And we grow sore from hauling all the stone
But we soon find it is all for nothing?

All our great plans taken away!
We all stand and stare in dismay
Snowball is the one to blame

Soon the pigs have gone mean
And they ration our food, we have all gotten lean
The dogs growl as we walk by

The seven commandments have even lost their meaning
As the animals go through a screening
To see who are the traitors

And as the sixth one is broken
Lives were taken of the ones that had spoken
We never thought the pigs would do this

Now our strongest horse is dead
Who seemed to be the only one besides the pigs with brains in his head
Now he is just another murdered by Napoleon

Sometimes thoughts do come to mind
Why do we follow leaders who can’t follow the rules they defined?
Yet we stay loyal, for they know more than we do

Oh no, now we see
The pigs conversing with the enemy
They drink and speak as if they are humans now

And as we look through the window
We can find no differences between
The pigs, who we thought were our friends
Now look strikingly similar to our enemies
